Exercise and weight loss can go hand in hand but…..

You may not like the sound of this but I am afraid to tell you that exercise alone will not give you the weight loss you desire, it is nevertheless a key predicator to successful weight management.

The problem that most people face when they consider exercise is that they find it boring and unable to view exercise in a constructive way. What is important to grasp is that exercise can be fun. It can be in the form of dancing, gardening and so on. There are many forms of activities that can be considered as exercise. It is important to actually understand the things that you enjoy and try and do this as often as you can. Taking a few extra steps each day can improve your health considerably.

Some studies have shown that having a pedometer helps to increase physical activity. If you set your goal at ten thousand steps per day whilst using a pedometer you can keep track on the amount you are doing. Many begin an exercise programme and either do it for a short while, or don’t maintain long term and therefore give up to easy.

It comes as no surprise to me that in January the fitness gyms are at the peak of memberships, and by the end of February numbers decline, only to go up again in summer months and dip again in the winter. This pattern of behaviour speaks for itself and highlights the fact that too many people view physical activity as a small (and perhaps tedious) part of their life instead of incorporating a new and exciting activity that they are less likely to become bored with and more likely to stick with.

Most individuals need to engage daily in at least sixty minutes of some form of exercise to prevent weight gain. Why should this be when so many years back we did not have to go to the gym and we were generally fit? As I said many times before – it’s simple – society has changed.

Today we use our minds more than our physical body. This is why it is important for us now in the 21st century to increase our physical activity to meet our bodies’ requirements.  So do something different today and make exercise a habit of a lifetime
